MONTESISSA WINES - Carpaneto
In Val Chero, a few kilometers from the medieval village of Castell'arquato and Velleja Romana in the heart of the hilly area of Travazzano, our family raises vineyards in Buffalora, Costa and Case Ronchi.
The company covers an area of thirty hectares of property and ten hectares under rental management, in Val Nure.
The very varied exposures allow us to cultivate and enhance both white and red grape varieties with the respectful cultivation techniques of our vineyard.
The considerable investments made over the years, to preserve the company's viticultural heritage, have allowed us to reconstitute new vineyards with the propagation of mother plants from the older vineyards, thus preserving the autochthony of the systems.
The management of the cultivation of the grapes is set following the criterion of the minimum chemical invasion in the vineyard, using natural fertilizers for the nutrition of the plants and different working methods increase the immune defenses of the vines.
By working on the balance and healthiness of the vineyard, we obtain grapes of great aromatic intensity which are the only way to the quality of our wines.
Increasing the resistance of plants from parasitic adversities gives us grapes with a high health profile even in the vinification phase.
The grapes are harvested strictly by hand, selecting each single bunch before pressing. The preservation of the fruit-grape during the pressing operations is fundamental for the transformation of the same into wine, using few machinery and with the temperature control during the fermentation process we can monitor, step by step, the fermentation carried out by the indigenous yeasts of cellar.
At the end of fermentation, the stabilization of the wines takes place with the low temperatures of the wine vessels in the cellar and, with the subsequent refinement, the new wines are prepared for the delicate bottling operations.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS
Bartolomeo Montesissa bought the company land in the second half of the 19th century, land particularly suited to viticulture, from which it obtained an excellent product consumed in the family inn located in Piacenza.
The son Luigi, following and admiring his father's work, he expanded the company by planting other vineyards and selling the grapes. Dying prematurely, he left his eldest son Francesco and his young daughter-in-law the task of making wine the precious grapes of Barbera and Bonarda to give life to the future Gutturnio Classico DOC.
But the most significant turning point came with the work of Gianluigi and Roberto, assisted by their wives, who combined the traditional care for the vineyard with winemaking technologies and innovation in bottled sales.
For some years now, the children of Gianluigi and Roberto, Ilaria and Luca, have been continuing the tradition that has continued for five generations with passion and dedication.
